Soil Scientists Turned Gardeners

Through a collaboration with OSU's Soil Science class (Soil 205), Produce for the People hosted a service learning group for two weekend work parties on February 4th and 11th. The group came out for two 2-hour periods, and worked on spreading leaves throughout the garden paths, pulling up timothy grass, and up-potting seedlings.

Up-potting is a term used to signify that seedlings have grown too big for their current container, and could withstand the transplant to a bigger pot. The Soil Science students up-potted leeks, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, and lettuce, among other things.

One member of the group who could not make it to the second meeting was even dedicated enough to return the following week to make up the hours they missed.

Thank you for all of your work, Soil 205!
